Used in the filming of Pride & Prejudice, the description of the hall also matches Rochester’s House in Charlotte Bronte’s ‘Jane Eyre’ – ‘three storeys high, of proportions not vast, though considerable: a gentleman’s manor-house’. Charlotte Bronte visited the Eyre family of Hathersage in 1845, staying with them at North Lees Hall. The hall appeared as Thornfield in the 2006 BBC adaptation of Jane Eyre.
