Full Description: Hardwick Hall is one of the finest and most unchanged examples of Elizabethan architecture in England. Bess of Hardwick, the Countess of Shrewsbury, was the second wealthiest, most powerful woman in Elizabethan England after the Queen herself.

She amassed a huge fortune through a series of marriages and astute business deals and was the builder of the original Chatsworth House. Her lasting legacy to the region is Hardwick Hall, where today you can see Europe’s finest collection of 16th and 17th century tapestries and embroidery.
