Biddulph Festival 2010

The supercharged summer of 2010 is going to be one to remember. Beginning on June 26 and running alongside the excitement generated by the World Cup, Biddulph Festival 2010 promises to be a scintillating mix to delight audiences of all ages and tastes. The host nation of South Africa is given a platform in the form of the thrilling Mighty Zulu Nation: a company of dancers, singers and percussionists all the way from the Kingdom of Kwa Zulu Natal.

Spearheading the wave of new arrivals are Chumbawumba, Richard Digance and the legendary Helen Shapiro but we couldn't leave out the favourites, so Rock on the Rocks, Folk in the Park, Biddulph by the Sea, and the 1942 Dance are all back again. Altogether a kaleidoscopic, unpredictable lucky-bag of music and art, theatre, dance and good old-fashioned fun!

Wirksworth Festival's dates (September 10-26) are dictated by the ancient ceremony of ‘clypping' the church when the congregation of St Mary's Church surround their church with joined hands. The music and celebration that accompanied the clypping have grown into an exciting festival of contemporary visual arts and performance.

For the Art & Architecture Trail (11-12 September) Wirksworth is taken over by 150 artists exhibiting everywhere, in private homes from the grandest town house to the tiniest cottage and in public spaces all around. The Festival offers new commissioned work including the town's first Arts Pavilion, installations in shop windows and curated galleries. There is music, performance, dance, crafts and a carnival atmosphere.

Saturday: This walk has us begin our day on the Longshaw Estate. From here we will trudge up to White Edge - and once this height has been gained it's all down hill from there on. From here we will travel back along the river (a complete contrast in scenery - but delightful nevertheless) back to our start point via Grindleford.

Sunday: A short walk around the Burbage Valley taking local Peak District history from Viking burial grounds to Bronze-age hill forts. A lovely walk to shake out cob-webs before the drive home.
